MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Tuesday, April 18, 2017 – 6:00 p.m.
Benson High School Media Center
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Andy Abner, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Mary Langan, Chad Payne, Gary Williams
Members absent:  Jason Madden, Bill McGeary.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Mike Knutson, Dave Benson, Pam Anderson, Donita Ascheman, Molly Hanson, Eric Ose, Shelly Mikkelson, Mike Thompson, Janine Ellingson, Andrea Krusemark, Kathy Ahrndt, Stephanie O’Leary, Robyn Abner
Eric Ose read a prepared statement about the indoor pool.
Consent agenda items were approved as presented.
Progress reports were presented by the administrators.
The board approved the amendment to the 2017-2018 School Calendar as presented.
The community daycare group met again April 12th and Dennis reported the 50 page application was sent in to the State. The school has set dedicated funds for the community daycare center. The hospital had a color fun run with proceeds going towards the community daycare center. Hopefully other organizations in the area will step up as financial partners. A steering committee was discussed.
The City sent a letter stating they can’t sell the north end of the civic center so other options will be explored for gymnastics.
Cost estimates to remodel the pool as a multi-purpose space or classroom space were provided. The estimated cost to fill the pool is $100,000. Discussion took place but no decision was made due to the recent need to look at the junior high auditorium ceiling issue.
The board approved the FY17 Budget Revision as presented. 
First Reading for the FY18 Budget.  Final budget will be adopted in June.
The board approved transferring $1 million to the Committed Fund Balance to be used for future projects. 
The board approved adding a 5-12 Principal position starting in the 2017-2018 school year. 
The school will not do a summer feeding program this summer due to a lack of time to prepare and several other projects happening this summer, including the high school cafeteria being closed for maintenance work.

$750 for Tom Weber Memorial Scholarship from Beatrice Weber
