MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Monday, March 20, 2017 – 5:30 p.m.
Benson High School Media Center
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Mary Langan, Jason Madden, Bill McGeary, Chad Payne, Gary Williams.
Members absent:  Andy Abner, Jodi DeJong-Hughes.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Dave Benson, Mike Knutson, Lori Eix, Shelly Vergin, Robyn Dehne, Shannon Schmidt, Mike Thompson, Stephanie Overlie, Mick Boone, Henry Dammeyer, Anneka Duncan, Joshua Bailey, Presley Gonnerman, Ann Hippe, Charity Tofte and others.
Mick Boone spoke in regards to the cost of fixing the indoor swimming pool lights if the pool would reopen. A discussion was held.
Consent Agenda Items were approved as presented.
Progress Reports were presented by the administration.
The board approved the Naming Facilities policy as presented.
The board approved to move forward with the daycare application process for a maximum of 16 infants and 28 toddlers. The school will provide a budget of up to $10,000 toward daycare plus in-kind costs for the utilities and the space.
Discussion took place on a future Gymnastics facility. The City will be contacted about the space availability at the Civic Center and an estimate for the cost of filling in the pool space will be attained.
The board voted to dissolve the Benson and KMS current cooperative agreement for boys and girls golf for the 2017-2018 golf season. 
Shannon Schmidt, AD and members of the Student Leadership Team presented recommendations on school trophies and plaques. The board asked them to continue with their recommendations.
Discussion took place on next year’s trades class and building a trades house. The board decided to move forward with the option to advertise for bids to pre-sell a house.

$50 for Miles Staton Memorial Scholarship from Steve Ricard
$100 for Albert Lokken Music Honors Scholarship from Galen and Ruth Rud
$100 for Mary Lou Terwilliger Memorial Scholarship from Kent and Julie Molde
$1,000 for Bill Orr Scholarship Fund from Bill Orr
$30 for Mary Lou Terwilliger Memorial Scholarship from Hakon and Karen Torjesen
A citizen commented on the use of electronics in the classroom.  Dennis said that the Building Leadership Committee is addressing the use of electronics in the classroom.
