BHS grad gets rare chance to meet Roger Federer

Lead Summary

Jon Koenigs had the experience of a lifetime when he ran into Roger Federer at the Palm Springs Resort prior to the start of the Indian Wells ATP Tourney a few weeks ago in California, and Federer was nice enough to take a picture with him. Federer is off to a great start this year, having won the Australian Open, Indian Wells Tourney, and also the Miami Open this past Sunday.
Koenigs is one of the top tennis players in BHS history and his 135-36 career record is second all-time in BHS boys tennis history.  He qualified to state in 1991 with partner Andrew Kjos, and then qualified to state in singles in 1992 (placing fifth with a 33-4 record) and 1993 (second at state and 30-2 overall).  He was also a member of 1992 and 1993 teams that qualified to state.
Koenigs is a tennis pro in the Twin Cities area and is affiliated with the Wilson company.  Federer is also affiliated with Wilson and was on hand at a special clinic in California during the week of the tourney, which Koenigs was also attending.  “He was on hand the entire day and was a very gracious host,” Koenigs said.
