MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Tuesday, February 21, 2017 – 5:30 p.m.
Benson High School Media Center
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Andy Abner, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Mary Langan, Jason Madden, Bill McGeary, Chad Payne, Gary Williams.
Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Dave Benson, Mike Knutson, Pam Anderson, Shelly Vergin, Robyn Dehne, Reena Ollendick, Roger Ebnet, Jackie Hickey, Shannon Schmidt, Shane Grussing, Mona Young, Linda Carstens, Leonard Kwilinski, Vivian Kwilinski, Jan Baukol, Michelle Goossen, Bob Haase, Andrea Haase, Joyce Nokleby, Phyllis Stewart, John Reardon, Dan Enderson, Eric Ose, Jan Sumption, Mike Thompson, Marlys Boone, Mick Boone, Jill Stevens, Molly Hanson, Heidi Davis, Kathy Ahrndt.
Dan Enderson spoke for a delegation of pool supporters in regards to ideas for fund raising and increased utilization for the indoor swimming pool.
Consent agenda items were approved.
Progress reports were presented by the administrators.
The Activities Committee met several times regarding naming facilities and has developed a draft policy and application form for anyone requesting to honor an individual. The committee does not recommend naming a facility unless there is a substantial contribution, which would be determined by the board. This was the first reading.
The 2017-2018 School Calendar was approved.
Shelly Vergin and Robyn Dehne have researched and developed plans for an infant and toddler daycare  and presented information on licensing, potential locations, supplies, start-up expenses and budget. Dennis continues to meet with community members including representatives from the city, county, hospital and business owners. Discussion took place.
Discussions on space and needs for a gymnastics facility continues as the City is looking to convert the Armory into city offices. The board approved to find out from the City Council if the north end of the civic center is attainable at a reasonable rate.
The board approves the 2017-2018 Student Registration Guide for students in Grades 9-12 as presented.   The board approves the resolution directing the administration to make possible recommendations for budget reductions if necessary.
The board approved the SWWC Service Cooperative Special Education Contract as presented for the 2017-2018 school year in the amount of $157,893.15.
The board approves the SWWC Service Cooperative Heartland Girls Ranch School Services Contract for the 2017-2018 school year in the amount of $311,364.85.
The board approved maintaining the additional elementary teacher for 4th grade and add a special education teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. 
The board approved the $2,435.69 expenditure to complete the batting cage project. The district will decide where the batting cage is located and retains control of when and how it is used.

$200 for Joel Hoium Memorial Scholarship from the Joel Hoium Memorial Fund
$500 for Gale Skold Memorial Scholarship from Marlene Skold
$1,000 for Marsden Scholarship from Marsden Bldg. Maintenance, L.L.C.
$500 for Kelly Svor Fuhrman Memorial Scholarship from Steve & Gail Svor
$250 for Mary Lou Terwilliger Memorial Scholarship:  $50 from Julie Sponsler, $100 from Roger & JoAnn Findell, $100 from Beverly Borgstrom
