Pastor Charles “Chuck” Jacobson, age 85 of Northfield, MN, passed away on Thursday morning, February 9, 2017, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community.

Charles Eugene Jacobson was born April 12, 1931, in Benson, Minnesota, to Eugene and Ethel (Anderson) Jacobson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Benson High School in 1949.  Following high school he attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Anderson.  They married on July 18, 1953, at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in rural Hector.  After marriage they made their home in Rock Island, Illinois, while Chuck attended Augustana Theological Seminary, graduating with his Masters of Divinity in 1957.  He was ordained that same year.  He later received his Masters of Arts in Religious Studies from Stetson University in DeLand, FL.  

Pastor Chuck and his wife Marilyn lived a life of serving others and sharing God’s word. His first call as a minister was to Bartholomew Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  After serving three years in Elizabeth they moved to DeLand, Florida, serving at Faith Lutheran Church. In 1966, they returned to Minnesota, serving at Lutheran Church of the Master in Brooklyn Center before serving at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran in Cannon Falls for 23 years. Chuck and Marilyn retired from full-time ministry in 1995 and began an adventure of international interim ministry, serving in Helsinki, Finland (four times); Moscow, Russia; and Seoul, South Korea. He also served in interim positions at First Lutheran Chruch in Red Wing, MN, Urland Lutheran Church and Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls.  His final retirement was in 2007.  In 2008, Chuck and Marilyn moved to Northfield and joined St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Chuck was actively leading bible studies, enjoying concerts and plays, attending sporting events, caring for others, spending time with his family, and adding to his personal library and lifelong passion of reading right up to the time of his death.
 
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Roger, and his daughter Marka.  Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; and sons Paul (Michelle) of Cannon Falls, MN, Erik (Cindy) of Zimmerman, MN, Phil (Denise) of Lake City, MN, and his son-in-law James Longenecker of Palmyra, VA; 7 grandchildren:  Nicole Jacobson (Tim), Samantha Banitt (Michael), Marcus Jacobson (Sydney), Matthew Jacobson, Emily Jacobson, Christina Jacobson, and Anderson Longenecker ; 2 great grandchildren Emma and Logan Jacobson; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on February 25th at 1:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 500 3rd Street West in Northfield with a visitation beginning at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be held at the St. John’s columbarium after the funeral with a reception following.

Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Foundation or a memorial of your choice.
