Jean Clare Moran was born January 15, 1928 in Ellsworth, MN, the youngest of 8 children, daughter of John and Alvina (Kruse) Moran. She was raised on a family farm north of Ellsworth. She attended country school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School as Valedictorian. After receiving her RN Degree from McKennan School of Nursing of Sioux Falls, SD in 1948, she was employed at McKennan Hospital in the polio department during the polio epidemic. She later worked at hospitals in Sibley, IA and Adrian, MN.

On May 2, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to Vincent Peter Lonneman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth, MN. This union was blessed with 60 years of marriage.  After marriage, they farmed in rural Ellsworth until 1959 and then they moved, along with their 6 children, to a dairy farm 7 miles south of Benson where their family grew to a total of 9 children. Jean, being a dairy wife and a mom of 9 children, kept herself very busy not only taking care of 9 children, but also working alongside of her husband Vince and family, milking cows, picking eggs, baling hay and straw, gardening, cooking, and canning. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, reading, and spending time with her family. Vince and Jean enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family. Her favorite bird was the cardinal. Jean will be remembered for her wonderful apple and apricot pie. In her later years, she enjoyed listening to the music of Daniel O’Donnell. She always had a smile when her grandchildren or great-grandchildren came to visit.

Jean died peacefully on January 19, 2017 at Homestead North, Benson, MN surrounded by family under Rice Hospice Care. She lived to be 89 and 4 days old. She is survived by her 9 children and their spouses: Patricia (Edward) Lauricella of New Orleans, LA, Kathleen (Garry) Haacke of Boston, MA, Steve (Marguerite) Lonneman of San Rafael, CA, James (Carla) Lonneman of Hancock, Keith (Mary) Lonneman of Benson, Dennis (Marylou) Lonneman of Denver, CO, Theresa (Bernard) Tvedt of Danvers, Gary (Jill) Lonneman of Benson, and Marie (Curt) Wevley of Starbuck; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Jenniges; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent in 2009; her parents, John and Alvina Moran; step-mother, Annie Moran; and siblings: Dorothy Moran, Bernice Linssen, Marjorie Ross, Catherine Gacke, Robert, and Jason Moran; and their spouses.
