Donald Joseph Nagler was born July 11, 1934 in Marysland Township, Minnesota, the son of Joseph Rudolph and Janette Elizabeth (Schnitzler) Nagler.  He was baptized July 29, 1934 by Father O’Neil and confirmed July 12, 1945 by Rev. M.J. Larkin at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers, MN.  Don grew up in Marysland Township, Swift County.  He attended District No. 83 and graduated from Benson High School in 1952.  He served his country in the Minnesota National Guard from April 1958 to August 1963.  On August 6, 1966, Don was united in marriage to Beverly Kay Commerford by Msgr. Edward Trainor at the Church of St. Bridget in DeGraff.  Don and Bev shared more than 50 years of marriage and were blessed with five children and thirteen grandchildren.

Don raised beef cattle and farmed in the Danvers area.  He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Visitation where he served as a Lector, Usher, and Trustee.  He also served on the Visitation Cemetery Board for 38 years.  Don was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and he served on the Six Mile Grove Township Board and Benson Public School Board.  Upon retirement in 2006, he and Bev moved to Benson but he still made daily trips to the farm.  Among the many things Don enjoyed were farming, gardening, bus trips, fishing trips, watching the Twins and Vikings, and spending time with Bev, his children and grandchildren.

Don was called from this life on January 18, 2017 at Rice Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.  He attained the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days of age.  Don’s legacy is one of family, farming, and faith; the love and devotion he had for his wife Bev, his children and his grandchildren; his passion for the land; and his pride of the Visitation Cemetery.  Don is survived by his wife, Beverly of Benson; children: David (Jocile) Nagler of Danvers, Debbie (Scott) Roux of Rice Lake, WI, Sue (Scott) Smith of Benson, Sara (Tom) Hoffman of Benson, and Tim (Erin) Nagler of Danvers; grandchildren: Mike, Blake, Arianna, and Sophia Nagler; Ryan and Kaitlyn Roux; Dylan and Jenna Smith; Abbey and Zander Hoffman; Grace, Aubrey and Graham Nagler; and sister, Margaret Voorhees of Danvers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Janette Nagler; twin sister, Dorothy (Bob) Killingsworth; brothers-in-law, Bob Killingsworth and Leonard Voorhees; infant twin nephews; and other loved ones.
