Mavis Lorraine Koenen passed away December 31, 2016 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. Funeral services are Friday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation for one hour prior, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City followed by burial in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.  Arrangements were with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Clara City (www.wingbain.com).  
Mavis Lorraine Koenen was born January 22, 1932 to Vernon and Corintha (Spencer) Tangeman near Montevideo. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith at Ocheyedan, Iowa, and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.
Mavis grew up and attended school in Montevideo graduating from Montevideo High School with the class of 1950.
On October 21, 1951 she was united in marriage to Melvin Koenen at Our Saviors Lutheran Church parsonage in Montevideo by Reverend Gabriel Tweet. To this union six children were born.
Mavis was a loving mother and devoted wife caring for the family’s home. After she moved into Clara City from the farm, she enjoyed quilting.   She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City where she was active with WELCA.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl (Gary) Lyngen of Garretson, South Dakota; Gary (Sharon) Koenen of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; Barbara (Bruce) Brown of Verndale; Brenda Koenen of Clara City; Dwight (Jen Danforth) Koenen of St. Louis Park; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 2 great –great grandchildren; sister: Elaine Ryman of Eagan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Corintha Tangeman; husband Melvin Koenen; son Gregory in infancy; brothers Roger and Duane Tangeman and a great grandson.
