Benson girls to host invitational

The Benson girls basketball team was set to get the season underway Tuesday, Nov. 29 at home against Osakis followed by the Benson Girls Invitational this Friday and Saturday.  The Benson girls have six home dates to open up the season before going on the road to start 2017.
The Braves went 1-25 last year, including an 0-14 mark within the WCC.  Benson’s only win last year was a 67-64 overtime win over Paynesville in the second-to-last game.  
West Central Area and MACCRAY are set to get the Benson Invitational underway at 6 p.m., Friday, followed by Benson versus Morris Area at about 7:45 p.m.  The game against Morris will also count as a WCC game.
The JV teams are also set to play with the WCA and MACCRAY JV teams meeting at 4 p.m. in the auxiliary gym and Benson and Morris Area playing at 6 p.m.
Gone from last year’s Benson team are Addie Forbord and Rachel Lee, but the team does return six seniors that saw extensive action on last year’s team, along with one junior that was a regular on varsity.
Back as head coach of the Braves is Jonas Grossman, who will be assisted by Chelsea Stiel and Eric Hulterstrum....
