Suspect wanted on three felony warrants arrested

 
Law enforcement officers surrounded the Nevada Square Townhomes in Benson shortly before 10 Thursday morning as they searched for Jerrell Henderson, 26, a potentially dangerous person with three felony warrants outstanding.
 
One charge involved felony possession of a firearm and two charges of fifth degree controlled substance possession, according to Benson Chief of Police Ian Hodge. The crimes were not committed in the Benson area.
 
Donyelle Vaneshia Cotten, 23, was arrested at the scene and charged with harboring a fugitive from the law, Hodge said in a news release.
 
Officers from the federal Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Minneapolis Police Department, the Swift County Sheriff’s Office, the CEE-VI Drug Task Force and the West Central SWAT team were involved in the search and arrest.
 
Snipers were reportedly placed on buildings around the apartment Henderson was suspected of residing in and an armored vehicle was used to approach the door. Officers were dressed in tactical gear.
 
When Henderson was not found in the first apartment that was searched, officers regrouped and located him shortly after in another apartment in the building, Hodge said. He was initially taken to the Swift County Law Enforcement Center jail in Benson, but later transferred to the Minneapolis Police Department.
 
There were no injuries to anyone in the apartment building or to law enforcement officers involved in the arrests. However, text messages were circulating in the community about a murder and a hostage situation at Nevada Square, neither of which were true.
The nearby Benson Northside Elemetnary School was put into a lockdown as faculty were getting prepared for the start of the school next Monday.
