Ardell Rodrick Olson
Ardell Rodrick Olson, 84, of Murdock, passed away at home on June 5, 2016, with his family present. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 9, at 10:30 am at Bethesda Lutheran Church of Murdock with Pastor Dan Croonquist officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5pm-7pm and one hour before the service. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery.
Ardell was born April 20, 1932 on a farm north of Kerkhoven to Ole and Ada (Wall) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda. He grew up on a farm north of Murdock and was in 4H and Rural Youth. He attended District #5 country school and graduated from Murdock High School in 1950. He went to the U of Morris for ag school, then enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War. He farmed north of Murdock, working some winters at Tylers in Benson.
Ardell was united in marriage to Marjorie Lundgren on June 29, 1955 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Benson. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and were blessed with 3 children: Cheryl, Bob and Alan.
He served on the Murdock Elevator Board; was a member of the VFW; served on the Bethesda Church board and cemetery board; was on the Federal Land Bank Advisory Board; and was also a pilot.
He enjoyed farming, working in his shop, inventing things, Bible study, playing cards, fishing, camping, traveling & visiting, and playing with his 10 grandkids & 20 great-grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Margie; children Cheryl (LeRoy) Froehlich, Robert (Cindy) Olson, and Alan (Dorinda) Olson; grandkids Mike (Candice) Olson, Tom (Darcy) Froehlich, Steve Olson, Kris (Josh) Wagner, Jesse (Carla) Olson, Wayne Olson, Jon (Karen) Froehlich, Kala (Todd) Rudningen, Becky (Jeremy) Schafer, Ashley (Kasey) Holm; great-grandkids Carter Novak, Luke Froehlich, Teagan Froehlich, Emily Wagner, Cole Froehlich, Shane Froehlich, Leah Wagner, Devin Rudningen, Vanessa Olson, Trent Olson, Alissa & Alaina Rudningen, Kassie Olson, Hailey Rudningen, Madilyn Froehlich, Kinsley Schafer, Finley Holm, Bryce Olson, Abigail Froehlich; siblings Don (Vi) Olson, Leona (Ron) Blowers; many nieces, nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by parents Ole & Ada Olson; brother & sister-in-law Russell and Lucy Olson; and great-granddaughter Lauren Olson.
