Ella V. VanOrt 89, of New London died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Cokato Manor in Cokato.  Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 11, 2015, at Hope Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer.  Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.  A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Ella Virginia VanOrt was born on March 25, 1926, in Swenoda Township near Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Hatlelid) Erickson.  She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Swenoda Township and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Benson by Reverend Melvin Andrews.
Ella attended school at District #49 Country School in Swift County through the 8th grade and graduated from Benson High School in 1944.  She was employed by the SACA Office in Benson, Chevalier Insurance Agency in Benson and later at Corneil-Elkjer Agency in Willmar before retiring in 1991.  Ella was united in marriage to Burton R. VanOrt at our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson on January 11, 1967.  They made their home in rural New London.
Ella was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer.  She enjoyed gardening, walking, snowshoeing in winter, travel, and reading.  In bygone years she enjoyed bowling, fishing and photography.
Ella is survived by her sisters Orla Marie Grimm of Washington and Dorothy and (Robert) Lye of Benson; sisters-in-law, Alice VanOrt of Willmar and Arloueen VanOrt of Litchfield; brother-in-law, William Arnold of Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Burt; brothers, Lester and Herbert; sisters-in-law, Idella Erickson and Geneva Arnold, brothers-in-law, Paul Grimm, and Howard, Roger, William, Jacob, and Paul VanOrt.
