Morris rallies for win over Benson in OT

Lead Summary

In a game Morris Area led 21-7 at halftime before the Benson Braves came roaring back with four-straight touchdowns for a 39-27 lead, the Tigers sent the Benson players and fans home in a shocked state after scoring 12 points in the final 6:29 and then scoring on its first and only try in overtime for a 47-39 victory.
The Braves, who had snapped a 17-game losing skid during their previous game, a 35-0 victory over YME, looked like they were headed for a two-game winning streak before the Tigers scored with 3:01 left and again with 1:06 remaining, but gave Benson some ray of hope by missing both extra-point tries.
In overtime, Morris scored on its first play from the 10-yard line, but Benson couldn’t answer, throwing three-straight incompletions, including the final one that was intercepted by Morris’ Chase Metzger to end the game.
“Wow, what a wild game!”, Benson head coach Scott Gonnerman said.  “It had a little bit of everything.  Unfortunately, time ran out on us and we were not able to come back to Benson with the win.”
Benson, now 1-2 for the season, is set to host BOLD this Friday at 7 p.m.
