Saints one of four teams left in Section 3A

Lead Summary

The KMS softball team suffered its first loss of the season in the fourth game of the Section 3A Tourney, but the Saints are still one of four teams still in the running for the section title and another state tournament berth.
The Saints opened up the tourney with a 12-2 win over YME followed by a 10-0 shutout of BOLD last Tuesday night in Murdock.  Four days later at Cottonwood, the Saints rallied to beat Springfield, 6-5, but in the upper bracket finals, KMS was defeated by its nemesis, Southwest MN Christian-Edgerton, 3-2, sending the Saints back into consolation bracket where it will have to win three-straight games for the Section 3A title.
Springfield and BOLD were set to meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday (yesterday) in Cottonwood in an elimination game with KMS taking on the winner at about 5:30 p.m.  The winner of the 5:30 p.m. game moves on to face Edgerton at 4 p.m., Thursday (tomorrow) in Cottonwood with a second game to follow, if necessary.
KMS qualified to state in 2011, 2012, and 2013 before falling to SWM-Edgerton twice last year in the section finals.
KMS 12, YME 2
The Saints easily beat Yellow Medicine East in an elimination game last Tuesday night in Murdock, 12-2.  Ali Krieger pitched a complete game for the win, and she also had a big game offensively, going 3-for-3 with a homerun and three RBIs.
