Donna Christenson “Chris ” Lamphere, 79, died of complications from C.O.P.D. at Piedmont Hospital in Jasper, Georgia on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
Chris was born  June 2, 1935 in St. Paul, Minnesota. During her high school years in Benson, she was a cheerleader and in the drama club. She was also an accomplished pianist, writer, and singer.
She lived and worked in Minneapolis, San Francisco and Chicago before marrying the love of her life, Albert “Ab” Lamphere in 1965 during a Minnesota blizzard. After living in Virginia and then Florida, they settled in Nashville, Tennessee where they raised their two daughters, Nancy and Karen.
Chris worked at the corporate offices of Service Merchandise for 15 years. She was working as an HR manager before her retirement in 1990. Once retired, she and Ab enjoyed many years of travel. They moved to Alabama, then North Carolina before making Ellijay, Georgia their final home together. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March of this year.
Our most beloved Chris is survived by her husband, Ab Lamphere, daughters: Nancy Lamphere and Karen Mrozek, son-in-law, John Mrozek, grandson, Luke Mrozek, and brother Jay Christenson.
A memorial will be held on a future date still to be determined. The family requests that donations be made in Chris’ name to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital in lieu of flowers. www.stjude.org.
