New Benson garbage carts to be used now

New big blue garbage carts labeled with the name of the City of Benson were delivered to residents last week and will now be required for use.
The primary reason for going to the new carts, City Finance Director Glen Pederson told the Benson City Council in March, was to allow Matthiesen Disposal to use an automatic arm on their garbage trucks to pick up and dump the carts. Eliminating physical pickup of garbage reduces work-related injuries and allows Mattheisen to operate with fewer staff when needed, he said.
Benson is investing $55,000 into the new carts and ordered 1,250 of them.
