Nature Energy CUP approved by Benson council

By Reed Anfinson

Benson’s City Council unanimously approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for Nature Energy’s construction of a bio-gas facility at its meeting Monday night.
The Danish company plans to use turkey litter, dairy manure, and other waste products to produce renewable natural gas on the site of the former Fibrominn power plant at Benson’s western edge.
Approval of the CUP moves the company one step closer to construction. There are other permits the company must get approved, however, as it works with the State of Minnesota and the Army Corp of Engineers. It will also need to get a building permit from the city once its site and construction plans are fully in place.
