Minchow, Laumeyer, Grussing, Lenarz earn All-WCC for Benson baseball

The Benson baseball team ended the 2021 season with a 12-10 overall record, which included a 7-5 mark within the WCC to tie for third with Minnewaska Area.  Benson was 11-2 at one point in the season before going 1-8 down the stretch, including three one-run losses and another loss in extra innings.

BOLD, which swept a doubleheader from Benson in the regular-season finale, won the league title with a 10-2 record, followed by Melrose Area (9-3), Benson and Minnewaska (both 7-5), Morris Area-CA (6-6), Sauk Centre (3-9), and Montevideo (0-12).

Members of this year’s varsity Benson baseball team, coached by Mark Grussing, were seniors Sam Grussing, Cole Hedman, Corbin Holmquist, Matt Laumeyer, Sam Lenarz, Patrick Minchow, Josh Norby, Kellen Schmidt, and Trey Smith; and juniors Dylan Ascheman and Isaac Minchow.  Members of the JV team, coached by Tom Foley, are sophomores AJ Klassen and Reece Larson; ninth-graders Garrett Lenz, Mason Moe, Dusty Reich, and Tyler Sutton; and eighth-graders Alex Claussen, Noah Goossen, Grant Gunlogson, Jack Storlien, and Zach Wrobleski...
