McLaughlin sets Guinness Book of World Record

Had the barrel-chested Bensonite not been powerfully built from the waist up, it’s conceivable he would have fell short of the world record.  That wasn’t the case Saturday and Sunday in Jack’s Rec, however, as Mike McLaughlin, drawing on every ounce of strength and bit of endurance he had, smashed an existing world record.

If McLaughlin’s attempt becomes official, he will hold -- according to the Guinness Book of World Records ---- the world record for making the most pool balls in a 24-hour period.

During the 24-hour span from noon Saturday through 12-bells Sunday, McLaughlin dropped a total of 8,415 pool balls in the side and corner pockets.  He smashed the existing world record, according to Guinness by 169 balls.

When his record-setting ordeal was over at noon Sunday, McLaughlin said his feet aches, his legs hurt, his back and arms were numb.  “Just about everything hurt,” he explained...
