McGeary wins first gymnastics gold medal on balance beam

Lead Summary

Benson sophomore Libby McGeary became the first gymnast at Benson or KMS to earn a gold medal.  McGeary, competing in the all-around at the State Gymnastics Meet, Friday, at Champlin Park, scored a 9.6 on the balance beam to place first in the Class A Gymnastics Meet.
The 9.6 score also broke a school record, giving McGeary her third school record of the season.
Last year, McGeary qualified to the state meet in the all-around, placing 19th overall in the State Class A competition.
McGeary went on to place 13th overall in the all-around in the Class A Meet while also placing 26th on the floor exercise, 32nd on the uneven bars, and 37th on the vault.
“Libby had a great meet,” coach Kathy Ahrndt said.  “I’ve looked at her balance beam routine many times and it was flawless; she did not even have a wobble.  I’m very happy for her.  She had a great season.”
