McGeary, Kelley, Andrews earn WCC honors for Benson-KMS gymnasts
The Benson-KMS gymnastics team had a very memorable year in 2020-21. The team not only christened its new home, the Benson Athletic Center, but the program finished the season with the first-ever state gold medal when sophomore Libby McGeary won the Class A balance beam title at the State Gymnastics Meet.
McGeary, competing in the all-around at the State Gymnastics Meet at Champlin Park, scored a 9.6 on the balance beam to place first in the Class A Gymnastics Meet.
Last year, McGeary qualified to the state meet in the all-around, placing 19th overall in the State Class A competition.
This year, McGeary went on to place 13th overall in the all-around (36.15) in the Class A Meet while also placing 26th on the floor exercise (9.0), 32nd on the uneven bars (8.575), and 37th on the vault (8.975).
Jada Olsen, of Perham, won the Class A all-around with a score of 37.8. She also won the uneven bars (9.675) and vault (9.875), while McGeary won the beam, and Sawyer Gorman, of Pine Island, won the floor (9.65).
The gymnastics team went 4-2 this year, including a 2-1 record in the WCC....
