McGeary and team claim titles at Morris Meet

With two of its top gymnasts only able to compete in two events due to lingering injuries, the Benson-KMS gymnastics team still won the five-team Morris Area Invitational title with 132.35 points, Saturday.

The Fighting Braves edged runner-up NLS by just over one point (131.1), while Detroit Lakes was third (121), Park Rapids fourth (115.5), and Morris Area fifth (111.25).

Mariah Ahrndt and Allie Mitteness, two of the team’s top gymnasts and seniors, were only able to compete on the uneven bars and balance beam, but ninth-grader Libby McGeary helped make up for their absence by winning the all-around with a score of 34.7 and also winning three of the four individual events.

The gymnasts, coached by Kathy Ahrndt, were set to compete at Litchfield-DC, Thursday (tomorrow) before coming home for the first meet in Benson, Thursday, Dec. 19 against Morris Area-CA...
