Maurer and Johnson compete at state golf

Two members of the Benson girls golf team took part in the State Class A Girls Golf Tournament last Tuesday and Wednesday at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.  Alissa Maurer was competing in her second state tournament, while Stacy Johnson earned her first sate berth this spring.

Maurer had 18-hole rounds of 94 and 89 for a 183 total to tie for 11th place overall.

Park Christians’ Emily Stueland and LQP’s Sarah Halvorson tied for the individual Class A state title with 36-hole totals of 166.  Both players had 81s the first day and 85 the second.

“The bunkers were very tricky to hit out of and the fast greens seemed like the ball would roll forever,” Maurer said.  “I really enjoyed this season and it was very fun to end the year at the state tournament and play with people from all over the state.”
Stacy Johnson also did a great job, finishing tied for 40th of the 88 individual golfers.  Johnson had rounds of 105 and 94 for a 199 total...
