Mark Anthony Staton, 67, of Clontarf, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home under hospice care.
A Celebration of Life with a brief prayer service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Clontarf Hall. The prayer service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be a later date in the St. Malachy’s Catholic Cemetery in Clontarf.
Mark Anthony Staton was born August 24, 1957, in Benson, Minnesota the son of Ralph “Joe” and Rita (McQuaid) Staton. He was baptized September 1, 1957, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota, by Rev. Russell Doerrer and confirmed in the Catholic Faith June 8, 1969, at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf, by Bishop Alphonse Schladweiler. Mark grew up in the Clontarf and Benson area, attending school in Clontarf and graduating from the Benson High School.
April 16, 1983, Mark was united in marriage to Jean Marie Ascheman at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf by Father Dennis Becker. Mark and Jean lived on a farm south of Benson for a couple of years after their marriage and soon moved to a farm just outside of Clontarf. Mark worked for Quinn’s, Tylers Manufacturing (where he helped build the first Patriot sprayer), Lor-Al, and Hancock Concrete. He was a member of the Shamrock Hest Riding Club for many years. Mark’s hobbies and interest include being a spectator at their children’s events, riding at horse shows and trail rides with family and friends, spending time with family, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying their interests. Prior to becoming a father, he was an avid hunter of geese, ducks, deer, pheasants and varmints. He enjoyed building and repairing in his workshop and building homemade gifts for the grandchildren. He enjoyed ice fishing and spear fishing and was always willing to help anyone he could. If you knew Mark, you knew his description of people who left their shopping carts in the parking lot.
Mark is survived by his wife Jean Staton of Clontarf; children: Heather (Brian) Lehr of Pierre, SD and Jacob (Krista) Staton of Madison, MN; four grandchildren:  Piper Rose Staton, Willow Rayne Staton, River Hayes Staton and Avery Leigh Lehr; siblings: Dennis Staton of Benson, John “Jack” (Deb) Staton of Benson, Michael Staton of Clontarf,  Joseph Staton of Clontarf, James (Rose) Staton of Benson,  Karen (Dennis) Geyer of Benson and Thomas (Carol) Staton of Clontarf.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Rita Staton; brothers: Ralph, Raymond and David Staton; sisters-in-law, Linda Staton and Shirley Staton.
