Lauretta M. Schneider, 94, of Farmington, Minnesota passed away January 5, 2025.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Church of St. Michael, 22120 Denmark Avenue, Farmington, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Farmington.
Lauretta was born September 24, 1930, to James Thomas Hughes and Mary Lauretta (Gallagher) Hughes in Marysland Township near Danvers, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm, graduated from Benson High School and went to work for her aunt, Cel, at Allen’s Café in Gaylord, Minnesota.
Lauretta moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Bob Schneider. They were married May 24, 1952 at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers. They moved to Farmington and started a family. She became a full-time mother to her children making sure she was always there for them. There were always homemade cookies or treats when the kids came home from school. She was very active in her church and community. She was both a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, started the pre-school religion program at St. Michael’s and brought communion to homebound residents. She sang in the funeral choir and was a member of the St. Jude Circle. She worked tirelessly in the pro-life movement. She visited the nursing home regularly visiting everyone!! She made hundreds of rosaries for the missions so she could share her love of the Blessed Mother and the rosary with the world.
Lauretta is survived by her children: Anita (Bob) Doll of Sun City, AZ, Daniel (Jane Mayer) of Richmond, Minnesota, Bernard (Beth) of Farmington, and Margaret (Bill) McMahon of Farmington. She is survived by her sister, Maureen (Frank) Vogel of Underwood, Minnesota and her brother Joe (Tina) Hughes of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Elenora Hughes (Ernest) Winkels, her husband, Robert Schneider, infant daughter, Mary Rose, brothers: Clement, Leo (Helen), Bob (Edna) and Clyde (Arlene) Hughes and sisters Iona (Irvin) Street and Eileen (Leighton) Kicker.
Lauretta had such a caring heart, and she will be missed by many.
