It’s Appleton’s turn in County ambulance purchase
Each year, the Swift County Board of Commissioners sets aside $40,000 to help the ambulance services that provide critical aid to the residents of the Appleton, Benson and Kerkhoven areas.
Every three years it will then grant one $120,000 to assist with the purchase of a new ambulance. That means that every nine years, your local ambulance service gets a new rig. This year it is the Appleton Area Health’s turn.
However, the money doesn’t go nearly as far as it once did...“The last rig Kerkhoven priced out and purchased was $245,000,” he said. That was three years ago."
“So, whatever we can do at a county board level to help support volunteer EMS is going to be important,” Rudningen said.
Commissioner Ed Pederson, District 2-north Benson and Benson Township, said that the county board may have to revisit its $120,000 donation to the CentraCare-Benson Hospital now that all the assets of its operation are owned by CentraCare, not the former city and county entity.
