The U.S. 12 bridge west of Benson will be closed starting Aug. 1, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced. Signs have been up for weeks on the detour as bridge work took place in the Danvers area.

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 1, weather permitting, the U.S. Highway 12 bridge over the Chippewa River west of Benson, will close until mid-September, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will be replacing the approach panels, guardrail, and paving at the bridge, which will be impassable to all traffic,
MnDOT said Friday. The work is part of the current Highway 12 bridge replacement project, replacing and repairing three bridges between U.S. Highway 59 in western Swift County and Benson. The other two Highway 12 bridges, located east and west of Danvers, are still under construction.

Highway 12 traffic should continue to use the detour on U.S. Highway 59 and Swift County Road 20. The overall project is expected to wrap up in September.
