After losses in their first three games, the Benson football team exploded for their first win of 2024 in week four. The Braves made the trip to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Sept. 20 and ran all over the Thunder on their way to a massive 40-0 win over LPGE to improve to 1-3.
The Braves wasted absolutely no time getting on the scoreboard. After receiving the opening kick off, Adrian Young took the first carry of the game 59 yards to the house to open up a 6-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game.
Benson kept the momentum going with another first quarter touchdown with a 16-yard pass from Darin Hippe to Jaden McCarter for a touchdown. After Hippe ran in the two-point conversion, Benson led 14-0 with just under eight minutes left in the first quarter.
Before the end of the first, Benson added one more touchdown on a big 55-yard touchdown run from Young with 1:29 left in the first to make it 21-0.
Most of the second quarter went by with neither team scoring. With a minute left in the quarter and Benson facing a fourth and 14, Young broke a counter open for 39 yards and his third touchdown to give the Braves a 28-0 lead at the halftime break.
