Hockey pairing between Benson and Morris Area has paid off nicely
Last year was the 26th season of hockey at Benson High School and the 20th season of the MBA sports coop. BHS went it alone for a handful of years before pairing with Morris Area to form the MBA Storm and Lady Storm prior to the start of the 2001-02 season.
It’s been a very successful sports pairing for Benson and Morris Area. Overall, 14 boys have reached at least 100 career points and seven girls have also reached that milestone.
Boys hockey -- The Benson boys hockey team has had 13 winning seasons, three .500 seasons, and 10 losing seasons in 26 seasons of high school hockey. The Braves had two of their best seasons in 2005-06 and 2006-07 when the team went 19-4 both seasons.
Two seasons ago the program set a school record for victories in a season on the way to a 20-6 record, breaking a six-season losing streak for the boys program. This year’s team was 13-5.
The boys hockey program started off strong with nine winning seasons and two .500 seasons among the first 12, but has struggled a little lately with only three winning seasons in the last 13.
Benson won WCC titles in 1998-99 when the team went 14-10 overall and in 1999-2000 when the team went 13-10-1.
While MBA does not currently play in a conference, the Storm did play in the WCC and Southwest Conference in the past.
