Gymnasts set another season high

Lead Summary

The Benson-KMS-Montevideo gymnastics team put on another great show last Tuesday night during a Senior Night home meet with Litchfield-DC.  The Fighting Braves scored a season-high 137.875 points during the meet to easily beat the visiting Dragons, and give them back-to-back 137 point efforts after BKMS had scored 137.375 points the previous meet during a loss to Melrose Area.
“We finished our home portion of the season with another team high last night with a 137.875 score; it was a great team effort,” coach Kathy Ahrndt said.  “Everybody is doing their job right now for the team, and the girls are all very supportive of each other.”
Just how good is 137.875 points.  Well, unofficially of course, only seven times in school history has a Benson, or Benson-KMS gymnastic team scored more than that; and six of those came during the 2004-2005 season when the gymnasts set the school record with a score of 141.375 points, Feb. 19, 2005 at the section meet.
The gymnasts also scored 137.925 points at the WCC meet in 2005-2006.
The gymnastics program at Benson-KMS has steadily evolved into one of the area’s best.  The gymnasts scored a 125.3 total in the final meet of 1992-93 to set a school record, and then went over 135 points for the first time with a 136.05 total Feb. 3, 1997, and the school record of 141.375 points in 2004-05.
In addition, the gymnasts had scored 130 or more points only 21 times up until the 2001-02 season, but have gone over 130 points in all 10 meets this season.
The gymnasts, who improved to 6-2 overall, were set to close out the regular-season at Hendricks, Friday, Feb. 3 before getting ready for the WCC Meet at Melrose, Saturday, Feb. 11, and the Section 6A Tourney the following Saturday, Feb. 18 at Willmar.
Seniors who were highlighted during the meet were Hannah Hanson, Carlie Lenz, and Sophie Ascheman....
