Girls tennis team to open up season Monday with home triangular
The Benson girls tennis team is set to get its 2017 season underway with a very busy first week of action.  The Braves, who are coming off a 16-3 season from a year ago, were set to open up at home with a triangular featuring Wadena-Deer Creek and Parkers Prairie at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 21 at the high school courts.
The Braves, coached by Don Brehmer and Mary Weckwerth, are also set to compete at the NLS triangular, Tuesday, Aug. 22; host a triangular with Morris and Annandale, Thursday, Aug. 24; and compete at BBE, Friday, Aug. 25.
And, that’s just the first week!
The Benson girls tennis team is expected to face a rebuilding year this year after losing eight seniors to graduation from last year’s team.
Benson went 7-1 in the WCC last season to place second behind Minnewaska Area.  Benson was 10-0 overall before losing a  close 4-3 decision to the Lakers late in the season.
In the Section 6A Tourney, the Braves were seeded third and beat sixth-seeded Morris in the first round, 5-2, before losing to second-seeded Osakis, 4-3.  The only other loss for Benson was a....
