When the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office published the ballots for the Benson City Council race, one name was left off.
Dan Enderson filed to run for a seat on the city council not too long before the 5 p.m., Aug. 16, deadline. However, the ballot posted by the Secretary of State’s office on its website didn’t include his name.
City of Benson staff noticed Oct. 6 Enderson’s name was missing when they looked at the printed ballots for publication in the Swift County Monitor-News ahead of the Nov. 8 general election. They then notified Swift County Auditor Kim Saterbak of the omission.
Once certifying that Enderson had met the legal deadline for filing for office, Saterbak filed a petition with the 8th Judicial District Court to get his name added.
“Swift County elections staff determined that Enderson’s Affidavit of Candidacy was filed timely, but due to a clerical error, the Minnesota Secretary of State – Election Report System was not updated, and therefore, incorrect information was sent to the printing vendor,” Saterbak’s petition stated.
