County sees first 2023 avian influenza case

Swift County saw its first 2023 avian influenza case Nov. 20 when the Minnesota Board of Animal Health confirmed a turkey flock infected with the loss of 134,349 birds.
It is the single largest loss of turkeys in the state this year. Meeker County’s loss of 114,981 turkeys in October is the second largest commercial turkey meat flock infection.
Overall, Meeker County has lost the most turkeys this year with four facilities infected and the loss of 252,518 turkeys. Statewide Minnesota has lost 889,681 turkeys in 2023.
