Council terminates City Manager Harris’ contract; Wolfington returns

By Reed Anfinson
Monday night Benson’s City Council voted unanimously to terminate the contract of City Manager Kyle Harris. He had only been in the position since May of 2023.
A contract for interim city manager services with former City Manager Rob Wolfington has been signed. Wolfington served as Benson’s city manager for over 25 years before leaving in April 2022.
However, when the city manager the council hired to replace him didn’t work out, he returned late in 2022 to once again serve. He went back to his retirement life when Harris was hired in 2023.
Recently, he has served as a member of the Benson Economic Development Auhority and has continued to serve as the city’s representative to the Missouri River Energy Services board.
At the start of its meeting Monday night, Benson Mayor Jack Evenson announced that the council would be going into a closed session to discuss the job performance of City Manager Kyle Harris.
