Coaches also affected greatly by missed season

The canceled high school spring sports season was tough on everyone, especially student-athletes and parents, but another group of people also missed out on another 2-3 month spring sports season; the coaches.

Until the season was officially called off, the coaches had to prepare for a season that never was.  Schedules were prepared, practices were planned, some opening practices were held, and contingency plans were developed.  All that work for nothing!

Some of the spring sports teams at Benson and KMS were expecting great seasons.  The Benson-Hancock softball team was set for a great year, while the Benson baseball team looked to be improved from last season, and a group of athletes on the Benson and KMS track and field teams also appeared set to earn berths at state.

The KMS softball team was going to be great again, another 20-win season within range, while the KMS baseball team should have had a great chance at repeating as section champs with the return of pitching ace Alex Call and after graduating only 4 players from last year’s state tournament team.

“We had a great bunch of players and even though we practiced only one week, I was seeing so much promise,” KMS softball coach Eileen Suter said.  “The pitchers and catchers especially were looking solid, but while I miss softball and being with all my players, we need to be careful and not spread his horrible virus around...”
