Cheryl “Shari” LuAnn Boutain, 76, of Alexandria, Minnesota (formerly Clontarf, Minnesota) died Tuesday, September 5, 2023.  The visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral in Alexandria.  Visitation will continue September 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m., also at Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net   

Shari was born May 12, 1947 in Morris, Minnesota to Francis William Hiland and Edna Harriet (DeFrang) Hiland. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1965.

She married William “Bill” Edward Boutain, Jr., November 6, 1965 at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf.  The couple moved to Kensington, Minnesota for a few years, then to Hancock, Minnesota and settled in Clontarf, in 1969.  She worked various part time jobs prior to operating the Haymaker Inn/Chatterbox Café for 3½ years.  Then, working for 20+ years at Swift County Homes and New Beginnings in Benson.  She moved to Alexandria in 2005 to be closer to her children and continued work with New Beginnings until her retirement.

She enjoyed puzzles, embroidering, quilting, baking, laughing and spending time with family and friends.  Caring for others was second nature to Shari.  Not only did she raise four children of her own, she was also a mother-like figure to most of her children’s friends and other youth in the Clontarf  community.

She is survived by her four children: Jeff (Roseanne) Boutain of Neenah, WI, Bryan (Christie) Boutain of Gilbert, AZ, Joel (Kim) Boutain of Alexandria, and Stacey Boutain of Custer, SD; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Dale Hiland of Marshall, Minnesota; sister Pam Green of Glencoe, Minnesota; five sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Shari is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Boutain, her parents, Francis Hiland and Edna Reed, stepfather, Wally Reed, sister Janet Revering, brother-in-law Bob Green, brother-in-law Harvey Witt and grandson Hunter Boutain.
