Candidate filings closed Tuesday setting the local, state races for November’s ballot

As this edition of the Swift County Monitor-News left for the printer Tuesday morning, the Minnesota Secretary of State’s candidate filings page still showed a couple open races, though they are expected to be filled. Filings for local, state and federal offices closed Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Republican state Sen. Torrey Westrom had yet to file as of Monday’s listing of candidate filings. To run for the state Senate in the new District 12, Westrom was required to move from his home near Elbow Lake in Grant County into western Douglas County.
Kari Dorry, a special education teacher from Ortonville, has been endorsed by Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) for the new District 12 Senate and has filed.
