Boys golf team sixth at state golf tourney

The Benson boys golf team placed sixth at the State Class A Boys Golf Tournament last Tuesday and Wednesday at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.  The Braves, who won the Section 5A title two weeks earlier at Willmar, shot a four-person total of 707 to finish 78 strokes back of Class A champion Fertile-Beltrami, which had a 629 total for 36 holes.

Placing second was Legacy Christian Academy (642), followed by Sleepy Eye (656), North Woods (675), West Central area (691), Benson (707), Lanesboro (714), and Adrian (731).  Benson had a 698 total over 36 holes to win the Section 5A title by 12 strokes over RCW.

During the state tourney, Benson had a 356 total the first day and 351 the second.  Benson’s best scores this year were a 166 in an early meet at Montevideo and a 337 during the Benson Boys Invitational...
