Big Shots hold off Quarter After for Swift Fishing title

The Swift Fishing League had the final event of the 2020 season, Thursday night on Lake Reno between Glenwood and Alexandria.  Usually one of the top scoring lakes of the year for the league, this year’s bite on Lake Reno hasn’t been great recently, and that trend continued for the Swift Fishing League teams, who managed to measure 10 walleyes, but no northerns.  The largest fish for the night was a 25.5” walleye, caught by team Quarter After.  That dandy, plus another 21.5” catch got them the win for the event with 13 points.  Second place for the night with 10 points was Hot Shots, which measured a bag of 2 walleyes, 22.75” and 18.5”.  Soil and Oil got third place with 2 walleyes at 20” and 15”, worth 8 points.

Now, for the league year-end results.  Winning largest walleye for the year at 26.25” was Jamie Naig of team Quarter After.  Largest northern of the season was caught by Butch Hagen, of team Big Fish, at 30.5”.  Only one fish worth of points separated the top two teams in the end.  Hot Shots was able to hold a 4-point lead after the last event to come out on top with 66 points.  Quarter After took a close second place with 62 points, while third place went to Marble Eyes with 52 points.  The difference of four points between first and second is equivalent to an 18” walleye or a 28” northern, meaning one more fish of that size by Quarter After or one less fish by Hot Shots would have put the two teams in a tie.
