BHS seniors miss out on special memories to close out high school years

Benson High School is set to conduct graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 this Friday at the outdoor swimming pool park.  A total of 62 students are listed as members of the BHS graduating Class of 2020.  The graduating list can be found on page 2 of this week’s paper.

The outdoor graduation ceremony, which includes social distancing restrictions, is just of the many changes the BHS seniors have had to overcome as they closed out their final two years of high school.

Seniors throughout the state and country have missed out a lot in their final year of high school.  After coming together as students in Head Start, preschool, and kindergarten, the Class of 2020 has gone through 12 years of high school together before their final three months were taken away due to the COVID-19 shutdown,.

No last spring concerts, no last get-togethers with fellow classmates, no Junior-Senior Prom, no graduation in front of family and friends in the gym, no final season of spring sports, and much more.

Instead, the students were told to grab their school supplies by Wednesday, March 18, were told to begin distance learning a week or so later, and then continued through the remainder of the spring not knowing from one week to the next if they would get to resume their school year or sports, which they ultimately found out they wouldn’t...
