Beulah was born May 11, 1927 in Clara City to Bruno “Brown” and Amanda (Annega) Knoop. She grew up in Clara City and attended school there. Beulah was baptized and confirmed in her faith as a youth. In 1945, she graduated from the Clara City High School.
When she was 20 years old, Beulah married William Abner February 28, 1947. They were married 46 years. The couple began their life together in Clara City and then moved to Illinois for a few years. They were blessed with five children: Donald, Gary, Shirley, Debbie and Betty. It wasn’t long before they moved their family to a farm near Benson, where together they raised livestock and crops. In retirement, Bill and Beulah owned and operated the Boondocks Resort near Alexandria on Lake Reno. Fun was had by all at the resort whether it was work or play.
Beulah wasn’t one to stay in the house, unless it was to watch Wheel of Fortune. She worked alongside her husband; whether it was milking the cows or caring for the crops, it didn’t matter, she was there. Beulah loved the outdoors. She grew the best strawberries and her garden produced many meals for her family. She also loved growing flowers and watching the birds at her feeders. Beulah loved spending winters in Florida walking the beach and collecting sea shells daily. She and Grandpa enjoyed garage sales and flea markets. She dearly loved her dogs through the years and she never stopped missing her favorite, Lady. Beulah was quick witted and her spunky personality kept her going. She was a very dedicated loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Beulah is survived by her children, Donald (Chris) Abner of Tenstrike, Gary (Linda) Abner of Lincoln, CA, Shirley VanWinkle of Benson, Debbie Jaeger of Benson, Betty Welker (special friend, Mike Anibas) of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren, Jade, Jamie, Janina, Holly, Cody, Misty, Randy, Karly, Jesse, Ashley, Mimi, Chris, Alicia, Kenny, Anna, Cassie, Kristen; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; great grandson, Payton; infant brother, Johnny; sisters, Mildred McGuire and Delores Hagemeyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Swift County Humane Society.
Arrangements are with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Clara City.
