Benson weighs how to allocate Xcel PILT payments

When the Fibrominn power plant torn was down in late summer of 2019, it set in motion a two-year agreement by which its owner, Xcel Energy, would make two additional real estate property tax payments. 
Those payments were agreed to as part of the city’s cooperation in the demolition of the plant, saving Xcel hundreds of millions in future purchases of the plant’s very expensive turkey littler and wood-chip-fired energy.
