Benson volleyball tops BOLD in five games

The Benson volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped  with a 25-20, 25-11, 25-14 loss at Melrose Area, Thursday night.  Two nights earlier, the Braves beat BOLD in a five-game thriller, which was Benson’s second-straight match decided in five sets.

Benson, which improved to 3-2 overall, was set to host Montevideo Monday.  The match was originally canceled due to COVID-19 protocol at Montevideo, but later, both schools received the go-ahead to play the contest.   The Braves are also set to play at Minnewaska, Thursday (tomorrow) followed  by away matches at Osakis, Tuesday, Nov. 10, and at Morris Area-CA. Thursday, Nov. 12.

Melrose currently leads the WCC with a 4-0 league mark, followed by Sauk Centre (2-0), Benson (3-2), BOLD, Morris Area, and Minnewaska Area (all 1-3), and Montevideo (0-1).

There will also be a Section 5A Volleyball Tournament this year with the “pod” tourney taking place Dec. 1, 4, and 8 at the higher team’s home site, the sub-section finals set for Dec. 10 at Melrose, and the Section 5A championship slated for Saturday, Dec. 12 at Little Falls...
