Benson volleyball team ends season with 4-8 record
The Benson volleyball team was hoping to close out the 2020 season with a victory after losing two more matches last week at MACCRAY last Monday, 3-0, and at home against BOLD, Thursday, 3-2.
The Braves started the season out 3-1, but fell to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the conference with the two latest losses. Benson’s victory over BOLD in game one snapped an 18-game losing streak for the Braves, who had lost six-straight matches by 3-0 scores before losing in five to the Warriors.
Benson was set to close out the regular-season this week, but a recent surge in COVID-19 forced the Minnesota State High School League to shut down the season Friday, meaning there will also be no section tourney.
The Braves closed out the 2020 season with a three-game sweep of West Central Area, Friday. Benson head coach Shannon (Thielke) Schmidt and WCA head coach Missy (Giese) Foslien are cousins and this was the first time their teams competed against each other. A recap of that match will be highlighted next week...
