Benson girls fall to Minnewaska and LQP

The Benson girls basketball team had a rough week, losing its first two WCC games of the season to Minnewaska Area, Friday (62-13) and to Lac qui Parle, Saturday (62-15).
The Braves, who dropped to 1-4 overall, should have a good chance at victory No. 2 this week with a home game against Ortonville, Tuesday (yesterday) followed by a game at Sauk Centre, Friday.
The Benson JV girls are set to play Ortonville at 4 p.m., while the varsity girls game is set for 5:30 p.m. in the main gym, followed by the Benson versus Ortonville boys game at 7:30 p.m.
Minnewaska 62, Benson 13
The Braves were routed by Minnewaska Area, Friday night in Benson, 62-13. The Braves scored just six points in the first half in falling behind 42-6 by halftime and then added only seven more points in the second half.
Benson shot a dismal 13 percent from the field and also went just 4-of-17 from the line, while Minnewaska Area shot 45 percent from the field and was 11-of-23 from the charity stripe.
The Lakers also held a 45-23 rebounding edge and 25-12 advantage in steals.  Both teams had a tough time taking care of the ball as the Braves had 43 turnovers and the Lakers had 33.
Madi Wrobleski led the offense with four points, five rebounds, and four steals, while Marley Rush had three points, four boards, and three steals, and Paige Wrobleski hit one three-pointer for three points.
“We continue to create turnovers and get steals, but we have to value the possession more and not give the ball right back to the opponent,” coach Adam Foslien said.  
Kaylin Grube, Adysen Himley, and Mya Kurkosky each added one point for Benson, while Presley Nygaard had four rebounds, and Himley also had three rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot.
