Benson council approves CUP for locker plant construction

A conditional use permit for the construction of a slaughterhouse along east U.S. Highway 12 was unanimously approved by the Benson City Council Monday night.
The city’s planning commission had reviewed the request for the permit during a meeting Monday noon and approved it with a set of conditions that were also adopted by the council.
Simeon Peterson plans on building a locker plant on the site of the former Prairie 5 clothing and food shelf building. He would demolish the current building and construct a new one for the business. The plans including bringing in live animals for processing.
