Benson bus has mishap

Early Friday morning a District 777 school bus went in the ditch along Minnesota Highway 29 north in Pope County. The bus driver was backing up to turn around when the bus’ back end entered the steep ditch and slid to the bottom at around 6:20 a.m.
The back tires caught wet soil and gave way as the driver was turning around, Supt. Dennis Laumeyer said Friday.
“As a result the driver was unable to move forward so the bus rolled backward into the ditch and off the road.  The bus was empty as it was just beginning the route.  Another bus was called to complete the route.”
Earlier it was reported that children were on the bus and had been transported. That information ended up being incorrect.
