Benson boys surpass win total from last season

The Benson boys went 1-1 last week with a 65-63 win over MACCRAY Jan. 20 and a 56-46 loss to Border West Jan. 23. The Braves move to 12-7 on the season and have already surpassed their win total from last season with seven regular season games left on the schedule.

The Braves hosted the MACCRAY Wolverines in the Benson gym last Monday. Benson trailed for the majority of the game against MACCRAY, but made a run in the final minutes to escape with a 65-63 win.
Benson had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the first half, but MACCRAY was in front for the rest of the half. The biggest deficit of the half was 23-16 for the Braves, but they finished the half on a 11-6 mini run and MACCRAY held just a two-point lead at the half.
Benson came out and took an early 41-38 lead in the second half, but MACCRAY responded and went back in front. With just under three minutes on the clock, the Braves still trailed by eight points. They finished the game on a 11-2 run capped off with a deep three from Graidy Zimmerman with a minute left to give the Braves a two-point win.
