Benson boys fall in close game to Lac qui Parle Valley
The Benson boys basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Lac qui Parle team, Thursday night in Benson, and the result was a 78-55 loss to the Eagles.
The Braves fell to 2-4 overall with the loss. Benson has yet to play a conference game this season.
Lac qui Parle, which improved to 3-3 overall, had four players score in double figures, while Isaac Minchow was the only Braves to score in double figures, ending the game with 10 points.
Benson has four-straight road games scheduled, including two this week at the RTR Holiday Tourney, Tuesday (yesterday) and Wednesday (today).
The Braves were set to open up the RTR Tourney at 4 p.m., Tuesday (yesterday) against RTR, while Hancock and Martin County West play in the other semifinal.
The third place game is set for 4 p.m., Wednesday (today) with the championship game slated for 6 p.m.
The Benson JV team is also set to take part in the holiday tourney and is set to play RTR at 2 p.m., Tuesday (yesterday).
LQP Valley 78, Benson 55
Benson stayed close with Lac qui Parle for most of the game before the Eagles ran away from the Braves in the second half and settled for a 23-point win, 78-55.
Benson’s leading scorer, Juan Espinoza, faced foul trouble for most of the first half as Lac qui Parle led 44-30 at halftime.
Isaac Minchow had 10 points to lead nine Benson players in the scoring column, while Jalen Anderson and Blake Brehmer both had eight points, and Juan Espinoza and Dylan Ascheman both added seven.
Kaiden Allpress led the Eagles with 18 points and 10 assists, while Blake Wollschlager also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Also scoring for the Braves were Chaden Carroll with six points, Brandonn Traut with five, Charlie Gocha with three points, and Noah Goossen with one.
The 78 points was the second-most points allowed by the Braves this year, while the 55 points scored is the third time in six games Benson has been held under 60 points this season.
