Benson in 10th place in State Farm’s Celebrate My Drive contest

Lead Summary

With only a few days to go, Benson Schools is in the top 10 of the Celebrate My Drive contest, sponsored by State Farm.  The contest encourages safe driving with a chance to win big.  Benson Schools was in the top 50 schools last year and won $25,000, this time, Benson Schools is hoping to get into the top five.
Cascade High School, of Iowa, was the No. 1 school in the small schools’ division as of Tuesday morning, while Benson Schools was ranked 10th.
Benson Schools staff and students are committed to keeping teens safe on the road and because of that, they are asking  everyone 14 and older to go to once a day, every day, and vote from Oct. 15 to Oct. 24.
The more safe driving commitments our community makes, the better our chance to win a $100,000 grant and a private concert by The Band Perry.  You can vote through Facebook, but if you do not have Facebook, you can still vote.  Just go to; click the red box: Make my Commitment; fill in your info (email, birthday, and association); on right hand side of next page, put 56215 in the zip code box; select Benson Secondary; answer the two questions; and do this daily until Oct. 24 from all of your email addresses, including Facebook emails and Verizon phone emails.
The top 5 schools in the small school division will each receive $100,000, and the school in first place will also receive a private school concert by “The Band Perry”.  Schools in the next top 45 will each receive $25,000.
Benson received $25,000 last year, but is hoping to move into the top 5 this year.  The schools that were in the top 5 last year are not eligible to be in the top 5 this year, and that will give Benson Secondary an excellent chance to place in the top 5.
According to Benson Schools’ staff, if Benson wins money from this promotion, 10 percent of the money must go toward safe driving programs, and the remaining money would be used for Benson football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, hockey, wrestling, gymnastics, tennis, BPA, FFA, band, choir, 7th grade DC trip, Prom Afterbash, and Benson Kid Day.
NOTE: Benson finished 12th at the end of the contest and should be receiving a monetary grant.
